An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

May 9

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYGive therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? (1 Kings 3:9)
If you could ask for anything in the world, what would be your request? Long life? Riches? A curse upon your enemies? Fame? Solomon could have asked for those things, but instead he asked for wisdom. He realized that he was only a finite human being who had become king of a great nation, and that he must rely on the wisdom and guidance of an infinite God to help him lead. How many times do we ask the Lord for what we want rather than what we need? Solomon received what he asked for because he asked in the will of God. Our Heavenly Father is willing and ready to supply our needs. Ask Him today! ~
