An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

May 26

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYAnd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. (2 Kings 15:9)
Each person is given a choice to serve the Lord, or to serve Satan; to do right, or to do evil. Our decision affects, not only us, but those around us. Leaders’ decisions affect multitudes. Those who lead countries have an awesome responsibility to lead their nations in obedience to God. The greatest way to lead others is by the example of our own lifestyles. In describing the character and leadership of five of the last six kings of Israel, the same thirteen words are said about each one, “And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.” (2 Kings 15:9, 18, 24, 28; 17:2) Our longsuffering and merciful God sent prophets to Israel (as He did to Judah later) to bring them again unto Him, but they would not listen. (2 Chronicles 24:19) Finally, God announced to them that since they had forsaken Him, that He would forsake them. Finally, judgment for their sins had come. Is America facing the same fate? As a nation, we have forsaken the God of our fathers. Through the pleading of pastors, evangelists, and soul-winners America has been warned. Many of our leaders are now proposing anti-God policies and laws. Our beloved nation has forsaken God! Regardless what others do, you and I must remain faithful. We must be true to the Lord until the end. Let it never be said of us, “And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.” ~~ DAILY BIBLE READING: Psalm 146; 2 Kings 15-17
