SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYHe chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: (Psalm 78:70)From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. (Psalm 78:71)So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands. (Psalm 78:72)
On the hillsides of Israel David faithfully fed and protected his family’s sheep. While faithfully serving as a shepherd, David was chosen by the Lord to lead the nation of Israel. At first glance, there seems to be a vast difference between keeping his father’s sheep and serving as king over God’s people; however, the same attributes are needed in both. His loving heart, his loyalty, his faithfulness and his walk with God are evident in both duties. As king he gently led his people as he had led his flock. He penned this beautiful allegory in Psalm 23. He fought to protect Israel as he had during those lonely nights when bears and lions tried to devour the sheep. God has a job for you. He has been preparing you for your heavenly duty. Find God’s will, and then do it faithfully with all your heart! ~~~
