An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

September 27

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYAnd rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. (Joel 2:13)

“Rend your heart, and not your garments,” God said. The rending of the garment was an outward sign of a repentant and broken heart; however in Israel’s case, they rent their garments yet their hearts were not broken. The Lord looks inside. He sees what no one else sees. We put on a facade that makes us look better to others, but is that what really counts? We should make sure our hearts are right. Someday we will stand before the Creator of the universe and answer for our every action. We will then realize that pleasing God in this life was the most important thing that we could ever accomplish. Are you pleasing God or others? ~
