An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

August 13

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYBut he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:5-6)

The golden nugget of all prophecy in the Old Testament of Christ is Isaiah 53. Many of Jesus’ day missed His first coming because they did not understand nor believe this chapter. Looking for a royal king, they missed the sacrificial lamb. We find here the reason for the suffering and death of Jesus. It was for our sins that the perfect Son of God died. Instead of being a sinner alienated from God, because of Christ’s sacrifice I am now His child! Instead of groping in darkness, I now walk in the light of His wonderful love! Instead of fearing eternity in a burning hell, I now look forward to an eternity in His eternal bliss! Oh, what a savior! ~
