An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

August 9

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYHe shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:11)

I am so thankful for our gentle shepherd! Isaiah, like David before him, saw the Lord as a gentle, loving shepherd who cares supremely for his sheep. In days of old the sheep would look to their shepherd for their every need. If they need food and water, he would lead them to still waters and green pastures. If they needed protection, he would risk his life for their safety. While they were young and could not care for themselves, the shepherd would gather them in his arms and carry them. The shepherd would gently lead the mothers who are burdened with caring for their young lambs. With David I can joyfully proclaim, "The Lord is my shepherd!" What a wonderful God we have! ~~ DAILY BIBLE READING: Isaiah 40-42
