An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

August 3

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYAnd the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it. (Isaiah 21:17)

In today’s Bible reading, Isaiah reveals God’s future judgment upon kingdoms, nations and cities. In verse 17 of chapter 21 Isaiah reminds his listeners that what he is speaking is not just from his mouth, but it is truly the Lord God of Israel that is speaking through him. “For the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it”, he declares! Twice in today’s Bible reading, and twelve times in Isaiah, you will find similar words. Man may make threats or predictions which may not come to pass, but when the Lord speaks it, it will happen. That is why we must always make sure that our Christian walk is in line with the Bible. Our doctrine, or beliefs, must have the authority of the Word of God supporting them. What you or I think or say isn’t worth much if it isn’t backed up by God’s Word. ~~~ DAILY BIBLE READING: Isaiah 21-23
