An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

July 29

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYWhere there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18)

The Hebrew word for vision means “sight or revelation”. Jeremiah decries a time when vision had failed in Judaea in Lamentations. Samuel tells of a time of no open vision in 1 Samuel 3:1. Today, we need a backward vision of the cross that we may remember what Jesus did for us there. We need a forward vision of His second coming so we may be ready. We need an upward vision of Heaven so we may be encouraged. We need a downward vision of hell so we may fervently win souls. We need an outward vision of the lost so we may realize their needs. We need an inward vision of our hearts so we may see our sins. We need a vision of God’s throne of grace so we may approach it boldly to obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. ~~~
