An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

June 7

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYMoreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, (1 Chronicles 29:3)
King David lived in the pomp and glory of his office. Thousands of servants moved at his command. His riches far exceeded anyone in Israel in his day. His armies celebrated victory after victory. In his youth he became the champion of Israel when he slew Goliath, the Philistine giant. His popularity rose to the point that his servants would willingly give their all for him, even their lives. Any of these things could have commanded David’s affection, yet it was the worship of the Lord and God’s house that garnered his affection. David had brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and placed it under a tent, but now his heart was set upon building a permanent temple, in which to house the Ark. Is your affection upon earthly things or heavenly things? Which do you love the most? Let’s learn a lesson from David! ~~~
