An Upward Look
A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYThirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings. (2 Chronicles 21:20)
When King Jehoram died, it is written that he “departed without being desired.” How sad! The twenty verses of this chapter were written about him. Nothing good was written. First, it is written that he had six brothers. He murdered them all! Then we read that his walk was wicked, following the wicked kings of Israel and his father-in-law Ahab’s family. Verses ten and sixteen tell us that “because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers” his subjects began to revolt. In the eight years that he reigned, he failed miserably as a leader, leading his people into fornication and whoredoms. Finally, he received a letter from Elijah, who had earlier ascended up to Heaven in a chariot of fire, telling him that God’s judgment would fall upon him. An incurable disease struck his body, and after two years, his bowels fell out. You do not have to live, nor die like that. Walk faithfully with God, be a blessing to others, and you can leave behind a memorable testimony! ~~~~
