An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

April 22

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYAnd Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22)
Sometimes we follow our own agenda thinking we are doing the Lord’s work, but nothing substitutes for simply obeying the Lord. Saul had returned from battle with the Amalekites bringing back with him the best of the cattle and sheep. He had captured the king and had displayed his conquest to the people for his pleasure; however, King Saul had disobeyed the Lord. God’s orders had been simple and straight forward, “Destroy everything.” Saul reasoned that since he had generally done God’s will, specifics would not matter. He was wrong! God wants his commands carried out to the smallest matter. No excuse would make up for his disobedience. Don’t make excuses; just simply do what God says. ~
