An Upward Look

A Daily Devotional Observation from God's Word

April 15

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR TODAYAnd Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: (Ruth 1:16)
Commitment is a rare commodity today! Naomi had sojourned in the country of Moab and was now moving back to her homeland of Israel. Both she and her daughters in law had suffered the losses of their husbands. Although one daughter-in-law had decided to remain in Moab, the other, Ruth, chose to make her home with Naomi in Israel. “Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God,” she promised! Ruth kept that promise and became the great grandmother of King David. We should be careful about making promises or vows in the first place, but when we do make them, we must be faithful to keep them. Can your friends bank on your word? ~
